An 87-year-old farmer in Southeast Wisconsin has decided to scrap plans for a memorial honoring Adolf Hitler. Ted Junker, a former SS officer who moved to the US in 1955, planned to to convert a barn on his property into a public museum to counter what he said were "inaccuracies about the war and Hitler's role in it."
Walworth County officials met with Junker on Thursday morning and persuaded him to keep the shrine closed, said Mike Cotter, county deputy corporation counsel. No one answered the phone at Junker's farm when The Associated Press called Thursday. Cotter said Junker would need permits to operate what amounts to an assembly hall or museum. Junker showed no interest in getting those permits, he added.
A Blogressive reader found an online memorial to Hitler that is both disturbing and cuddly. "Hitler Cats!" features nothing but cats that have the misfortune to look like Hitler.
