Dear friend:
Watching Bush play to his rightwing base by promoting the ban on same-sex marriage has been almost too much to stomach. I write about it--my way of catharsis--on our website in a piece entitled "Bush Kicks Gays." I called it that because promised to a friend, shortly before running for President the first time, that he wouldn't kick gays. Guess he changed his mind!
This weekend, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of those courageous library folks in Connecticut who stood up to the Patriot Act. George Christian is his name, and I hope you find my article on him interesting.
And check out Ruth Conniff's latest web offering. She talks about the unreliable trendspotting at Newsweek and even over at The New Yorker, whose political reporting is often conventional, I'm sorry to say. Ruth notes that The New Yorker has joined the choir of consultants urging the Dems to muffle their message and to move rightward.
That's not the direction we we want to go in!
All best,,

P.S. If you're attending YearlyKos (the progressive blogger convention) Las Vegas this weekend be sure and stop by the Media Consortium booth that we are sharing with other independent media outlets, say hello, and pick up a free bumper sticker and a copy of the current issue. We will also have some live behind the scenes coverage in our "bloggressive" blog!
