MADISON, WISCONSIN -- The Progressive, one of the nation's oldest political magazines, is pleased to announce that former Raw Story investigative reporter Larisa Alexandrovna has joined our ranks, emerging from four years of retirement to blog exclusively for our website.
"Larisa is the reporter who first revealed the location of a CIA black site during the Bush Administration, uncovered the political prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, and exposed the shady dealings of Karl Rove's electioneers," Progressive editor in chief Ruth Conniff explains in the February 2014 edition of the magazine, on newsstands now. "Her new blog will be hosted exclusively on The Progressive's website. We are sure you will find her insights on the news an important part of your daily read."
Larisa joins The Progressive at a time of great change for the magazine. In addition to a greater emphasis on investigative reporting moving forward, The Progressive will soon have an entirely remade website featuring a slate of progressive writers and activists known and loved by readers across the country and around the world. And that's just scratching the surface of what we've got planned.
"We're thrilled Larisa has decided to reemerge at The Progressive after personal and health reasons forced her to step away from writing for so long," explained web editor Stephen C. Webster, a longtime colleague of Larisa's at The Raw Story who came to the magazine last October to oversee the publication's online transition. "Larisa brings an investigative edge to our publication that should send a clear message about the direction we are heading, and she could not have arrived at a more crucial time. This is just one of many big changes that readers can expect over the next few months from our 105-year-old magazine."
Larisa's first story for The Progressive, "Welcome to the American Plutocracy," is available now.
"The Progressive is one of the oldest and most respected publications in the country," Larisa said. "Its writers have included legends such as Helen Keller, Upton Sinclair and Martin Luther King, Jr. I can think of no better venue to end my four year writing hiatus for."
The Progressive, founded in 1909 by Senator Robert "Fighting Bob" La Follette, is a nonprofit, union-made magazine based out of Madison, Wisconsin. Over the years, it has featured writers like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., George Orwell, Senator Paul Wellstone, Senator George McGovern, Senator Russ Feingold, Barbara Erenreich, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Molly Ivins and hundreds more.
