A voice for peace, social justice, and the common good! Since 1909, The Progressive magazine has aimed to amplify voices of dissent and voices under-represented in the mainstream, with a goal of championing grassroots progressive politics.

  • James Friedman, Co-PresidentJames Friedman

James Friedman is a shareholder on Godfrey & Kahn’s Litigation Team, focusing on commercial, First Amendment, and insurance litigation.  He is the Co-President of The Progressive’s Board of Directors, and he has been a member of the Board for nearly 20 years.  He is proud to serve on the Board of this 100+ year-old Wisconsin institution that continues to provide a unique and critical voice for progressive politics in Wisconsin and throughout the United States.

Jenny Pressman is a passionate social justice activist, an engaged community builder, and an experienced fundraiser. Currently the Director of Development of the Goodman Community Center, she is dedicated to strengthening the lives and amplifying the voices of women, children, and families in Madison, WI and around the world. Jenny brings to The Progressive board over 35 years of experience in non-profit fund development, governance, strategic planning, and board development.

Michael W. Apple is John Bascom Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  He has worked with progressive groups throughout the world to build critically democratic educational research, policies and practice.  Given the historic commitment of The Progressive to such movements, it is important to support the journal.
